i went out and got myself a belly putter the other day, just to try out for a round ( ive always been ok over standard length putters, but just got one to try out ). first few holes, in belly button, stroke back and through missed every 4-5 footer. i thought id try it like a usual standard putter, so i grip high on the club ( no body contact to the putter just hands, like usual ), leaving me virtually standing straight and tall, and to my surprise the putter was going the straightest back and through ive been able to get in years. i missed one other 4-6 footer that day ( out of about 6 ), that was a right to left putt, that i tried to hit firmly into the middle of the cup and it got lipped out. all i changed after that, was gripping down a bit on the longer putts ( still no body contact , just hands about 1ft from the end of the belly putter ) and didnt take another 3 putt for the day. i was pleased with that, and ended shooting a 7 over par round, im a 6-9 handicap recently so i stood up to my handicap. i was pretty pleased and now im gonna start giving it a few hours per week practice. dont even know why i made this a thread, just explaining the weirdness that i felt when using something that shouldn't really help, but it helped me big time. any idea of how this could of helped me out?. i put it down to a mental thing, after i made a nice 10 footer the first time of trying.
i can usually work things out in golf, but all i can guess is the mental part that helped me out, and feeling confidence that i can make those dodgy putts. that was left handed low too ( like ive done the past year on any putter ), so maybe shoulders aligned well.
may of been a lucky day, next time i go out i may have a bundle of 3 putts and shoot something silly.
EDIT--- it was standard right hand low not left, just took a few putts on my carpet. see i dont even know what i was doing
