Question Stance?

I am fairly new to playing golf and on Sunday we went to the local driving range and hubby told me I was standing to wide when I was using my driver. He said I should only be standing shoulder width. BUT I see here on these boards that people are standing all different widths. Does it just depend on the person? Or are you really supposed to stand shoulder width?

I think the driver is the only club that you require to go over shoulder width in stance, its just the you need to create a longer and wider arc on your backswing and its better for balance.

You just need to find a stance that you feel balanced with when using your driver.

generally, the average stance is about shoulder width to just outside the shoulders. whatever is comfortable to you and your hitting the ball efficiently.

Just remember the wider you get the more you restrict shoulder turn. If you do get really wide and try to turn the sholders you will find yourself dipping your head.

I agree with everybody else. You need to find a stance that optimizes swing width, maintains good balance, and allows for a good shoulder turn. So your stance may lie somewhere in between shoulder and width and just outside shoulder width. Everyone is a little different.
