Wie's abbreviated iron swing,

What is the advantage of having an abbreviated iron swing? It seems like most instructors recommend a full swing.

An abbreviated iron swing can help to keep a ball low. That's all I really know.

It does help keep the ball low but it also gives you more control with that particular iron, however the down side is that you do lose some distance. I use an abbreviated swing with my 8 and 9 irons and it has helped me tremendously on approach shots to the green. My ball placement on the green has become so much more precise.

it helps me hit it more square and straight rather then if i take a full swing i tend to cut across it more.

It should go straighter and you should have better control. If I need to hit a green and am around 150 yards or in, I don't use a full swing.
