Grip sizes

How important is having the right grip size? I'm about 6' 200 pounds, with I guess maybe a little above average size hands for a person my size.

I am still on the the stock grip size. Is it worth it to get bigger grips?

Depends on how they feel to you. If you're asking about it, then the answer is probably yes. My hands might be slightly bigger than normal (I'm 5'10" and have been able to palm a basketball since the 7th grade), but it was the way I was holding my clubs, felt like it was all fingers - and I had to hold it too tight for my liking. I switched to midsized and it seemed strange at first, but I can hold the club now without squeezing it dry.

generally, the tips of your fingers should almost to just barely touch the base of the thunb palm when gripping the club.

I have to have 2 layers thicker grip. My finger tips stick in my hand. But, i also find im getting sore fingers and that from having to hold on tight and having a cramped grip.

Regrip a wedge and see how it feels. For $10 you will have your answer. My guess is you need a larger grip. I am a med/lge Cadet glove and Standard is just right to small for me. You might also like a tacker grip (Winn for example or a GOLF PRIDE DECADE MULTICOMPOUND CORD GRIP) so you are less tempted to squeeze down.

You are right to look at this. Grips are one of the most ignored part of the equipment yet it is the only contact you have with the club.

Just check a golf site and never realized how many different types of grips there were.

I'm 6'3" and also have large hands. Should I look into re-gripping my clubs? They are all stock right now. Any suggestions?

I would suggest getting midsize grips. I'm 6'2, and they are what I use.

What brand grip do you use? Do you use more than one layer of tape?

BTW, I noticed we're both in Louisville.

I use Golf Pride Tour Velvets, and love them. Yes, it's just the one layer.

That's cool that we both live in L'Ville. What part do you live in? What courses do you play?

I'm....

6'2" and weigh 200 lbs and have fairly large hands. I have my clubs gripped with Golf Pride midsize tour wrap cord grips and like them very much. I would suggest you get one club gripped with a midsize and try it.

golfpride jumbo...i think it is a brand and the size...feels great to me ...i wear a large or sometimes xlarge glove ....but our range guy told me it is not your glove length size but the width of your hand, where grip size is more important ...i wonder if that is true?....

I live near the Summit/Springhurst area, east side of town. I mostly play at Long Run, Sleepy Hollow, English Springs (Different Strokes), and on occassion I'll play at Crescent Hill, Indian Springs, and Seneca.

I wear a FootJoy XL glove. I guess when I get re-gripped, I'll get medium sized grips. I'm thinking of going with GolfPride Tour Wraps (medium). Bueno or no bueno? How much will Golf Galaxy charge me to do my irons (3-PW)?

regripped 11 of my clubs with the Golf Pride Tour Wrap cord grips and the total cost was $90. I would think that Golf Galaxy would be similarly priced. I keep telling myself I am going to learn how to regrip my own clubs but never seem to get around to actually doing it.
