Charles Barkley

In the latest GOLF magazine, Butch Harmon says even he can't help Sir Charles. However, I think everyone is overlooking a simple facts. If he jerks half way during the down swing, he can just go back half way and come down. There's no way he can jerk that if he only goes back half way. He's a big guy and I think even with half swing he can hit a decent distance. In fact, there are many pros with short back swing with long distance. I tried to tell this to Tiger during the Open but he's not looking my way so I wrote to Golf magazine. We'll see what they have to say. Can anyone think of why wouldn't this work?

I've wondered if it was always more of an act than anything else. People have said before that when the camera isn't on him he's got a great swing, but once the camera is on that weird swing comes out. Could be his own version of the yips.

It's not the camera, it's the ball. His practice swing is OK but once the ball is in front of him, he jerks to stop in the middle of the swing. Yes, it is a yips. But what I'm saying is yips can be cured if he shorten his swing dramatically.

Of course I saw his swing, it is mental yips developed by a desire not to overpower the ball.

Tell him to shorten his backswing until he doesn't jerk stop in the middle of the swing anymore. Even if every shot becomes a chip shot. Once it works, he can increase back swing a little bit by bit.

Does he jerk stop during his chip shot? Then it's hopeless. But I doubt it.

I don't think that he takes the game that seriously. If he did, then he would improve his mechanics.

I think Sir charles should just play chip n putt courses if he doesnt want to change his mechanics. His scores wont get any better with that style of hitting . I call it that because, im not sure if its called a swing more of a thrust or jerky move.

I think he should go long term with somebody if HE really wants to fix it but i think he wouldve already done that, because he has the money to. And i think the teacher would do exactly what scratch said and start out hitting chip shots on the range with every club in the bag including the driver, just with the length of a semi-range chip shot, and increase the backswing a few inches every once in a while once he gets used to it and i think he can be a great golfer. I just dont think he will have the time, patience, and desire to do all of that.

No-one develops yips unless they're dead serious about the game. Believe me, he's deperate to fix it unless he's done that and given up already..

He did an interview with I think Letterman where he said that he had retired from golf. When asked why, his reply was "Cause I suck" and "I was beaten by a girl". You got to love the guy for being honest. Its great!!!!

Barkley's swing is a thing of UGLY.

Totally off topic, there is a music group called "Gnarls Barkley" and their song "Crazy" is pretty cool. Check out their video on youtube.
