Pelz Bible Experiences

I found the Pelz Short Game Bible very helpful. My pitching and chipping improved immensely after reading it. I found the way he approaches playing the wedges very logical and helpful.

On the other hand, the Putting Bible messed up my putting to the point that I honestly had no idea where a 2-foot putt was going. I was snake-bit. Previous to reading the book, I averaged around 32 putts-per-round, with occasional rounds as low as 27. After reading the Putting Bible and applying the principles, I couldn't get around in under 36 putts, sometimes higher.
I finally went back to my original putting style and things got back to normal.

I think that although there are useful nuggets in the the Putting Bible, it isn't for me. Perhaps that's because a great deal of putting is feel and there is more latitude for a personal touch.

I agree....there seems to be considerable debate on his chipping pitching styles...my pro differs greatly...esp the hinging and lower body coordination.

easy to get conflicting advice....

I like the backswing clock themes tho..it helps...

putting is so darn indivdual...

The thing about his putting style is that you need to do the pils stroke, which requires a face balanced putter instead of heel balanced like most of us use. I had to switch putters to be able to do this. But my putting is greatly improved at least by 50% . Short game bible definitely gave me more immediate results but the putting is a work in process that is slowly developing.

His short game bible, coupled with the lob wedge and gap wedge I added to my bag, helped me quite a bit. I'm still working on it though. His putting bible was a miracle. I've only had about four three-putts in my last four rounds of golf. Before I read Pelz's putting bible, I three or even four-putted on every green. I don't hardly miss anything from within about 5 feet anymore either. I used to be so scared of any putt longer than about 18 inches, now I just stroll right up and roll the ball into the hole.

I really think the Short Game Bible was great. Cutting edge research that really applied to the game and will improve scores. The Putting Bible just had way too much technical data (and I am a tech heavy person).

I recently picked up a copy of Damage Control and I havent really been too impressed (even though I have to admit I havent sat down and really read it cover to cover. I have picked it up and read bits at a time). To save you time and money, don't try to hit a hero shot, grip down on the club and try to make clean contact.

The biggest problem with improvement books, and magazine instruction is that even the most fundamentally sound concepts are hard to execute without someone knowledgable watching us. I know I will think I am doing something and not even be close. Most of us amateurs need a "practice buddy" or our pro. Then, after you are confident that you are executing, ingrain the feel!

Picked it up less than a week ago, and really enjoy it so far. I'm going to spend the next 2 months focusing mainly on this book and improving my short game. 75% short game, 15% putting, 10% power game. Then after a couple months I'll probably focus 40% putting, 40% power game and 20% short game.

Ditto on the 'Bible'. A friend gave me mine as a birthday present...he had previously seen my wedge work! You would think a book this thick would not be needed to describe the short game, but it is a great tool. I fly a lot and frequently stick this in my briefcase as a refresher.

The 3 x 4 system is great. It takes away a lot of doubts that used to plague me. Since applying the different wedges to his system I know exactly which wedge to use for the distance and situation.
