Hitting it high in the sky
I've been working on a new swing after seeing my new coach (he's **** brilliant, used to be the New Zealand national golf coach and used to coach Michael Campbell). It's been going really well, feeling 'right'. My divots are finally coming forward to we're they're supposed to be - after the ball. But there's one thing. Every now and then I hit a shot straight up. I'm practicing with a 7 iron, but these shots go like a 64* wedge, right over the top of my golf net and on to the neighbours roof (don't worry, they're platic balls!).
I know how to correct most faults, but this one I haven't really come across before. New swing, new problems. If it helps, my divots are fairly deep, suggesting my swing might still be too steep, which is coming from too much wrist hinge. I've been over hinging in an attempt to get the club parrallel on the backswing like the pros. I'm trying to keep my hinge to about 90* now, settling for a shorter backswing, but I can only assume by my sky highs that I'm still hinging too much.
Or could it be something else? Standing too close? Ball too far back in stance? Or too far forward? Something I haven't thought of? Thoughts?
