What part of the body contributes the most to generating the maximum speed of the club head?
This single answer allowed me to make a huge leap in my understanding of the golf swing, and in everything I had seen and read about the golf swing none of it emphasised it enough.
I carried out a survey on the Internet over several weeks and asked visitors to my web site the question:- What part of the body contributes the most to generating the maximum speed of the club head?
Only 20% got the answer correct – That's only 1 in every 5 golfers! And these golfers had a wide range of handicaps down to single figures.
Interestingly this figure corresponds to another golfing statistic - Did you know that only around 20% of golfers have a handicap of less than 18? It made me wonder whether the misunderstanding of the fundamental aspect could be the one thing that is holding so many golfers back.

....So the answer to the question that I posed above is that it is the hands (or wrists) that contribute the most to generating the maximum club head speed.
My swing speed starts in my brain and my mind. Eventually (I am 40 years old), the brain sends the signals to the hands. Wherein, the hands start speeding up and the brain sends another signal (your swing ***** or something close to that) and the hands slow down and the club barely makes contact with the ball.
I would argue on a theoretical level that the brain controls swing speed and uses the hands to do it's dirty work the most when trying to generate swing speed.
You could also argue that Tiger uses his hips to generate power to the swing, but I would still believe the hands contribute more than the hips for Tiger.

i have a freind that had a golf range (now closed, big development going in),
who's son plays triple a ball for the portland beavers, he's aboit 6'3" and not overly big but decently built. never in my life have i seen a ball fly so far. it looks like an easy swing, but his wrist are so strong, the ball gets hit a ton. the back of the range is 275 and can easily reach it with a 5 wood, yes, a 5 wood. there are, or were, tall southern pines behind the fence, and clears them easily with a driver (standard length). i told him, once out of baseball, he should do the long drive contests. with the combination of heigth, strong arms, and really strong wrists, wow!
