Hybrid Troubles

I recently purchased a Adams Idea I-Wood. I went to the course today to try it out and was having lot of difficulties. Firstly on some shots I would top the ball. Then on some others slice it pretty far. And finally I would hit it straight but it wouldn't get in the air.

Any tips you got?

Sweeping but slightly descending blow. Place the ball about an 2 inches forward from middle. Make sure to power your swing with your hips and try not to use your arms so much. Keep your arms and wrists loose. I've noticed that those who slice a lot use their arms to power their swing. That should take care of it. Or do what I did, lose the hybrid and get a 2 iron. I find hybrids harder to hit than irons, but that's just me.

VJ Couples hit it on the head. When you get armsy with the hybrid it is slice and duck hook city. Make sure you get all the way through the ball as well. I have found out hitting my rescue mid that I must get my hips working and really concentrate on the follow through. Once I got it down, it has become one of my favorite clubs.

When I purchase a new club it takes time for me to get use to it. After you get comfortable with the feel of the club you will start hitting it much better. This is why I never borrow someone elses club on the course when they offer. I know I won’t be able to hit it as well as my own clubs. Never give up on a club in your bag.

Hybrids are supposed to be hit like irons, not woods. Play it like you would play an iron.

Funny...I think that between all of us you will be completely confused...practice different ball placements and see what works for you...I hit them like irons...my ballflight was similar to yours when I tried to hit like a fairway wood with a sweeping action forward in the stance...I center the ball or just slightly forward of center and concentrate on a smooth swing and hitting down on the ball just like an iron, forward press and away we go...try both and see what works...

Do you have the same kinds of problems with your long irons?
