New Golfer question: What is a flop shot?
I understand what the draw and fade shots are but don't understand what the term "flop shot" means . Can someone tell me what it is, when is it used and how do you execute it? Thanks in advance. Jim

Flop is a high lob shot that requires a lot of practice but a shot that every golfer should know how to use here is a link on how to set up for a flop hope this helps.

Just watch Phil!
I read the tip too. I will share this...most people say to play it exactly as Joe Sullivan recommends-from middle to a bit forward...like a sand shot. One thing that is absolutley critical is striking the ball first with a descending blow. A pro showed me that actually moving the ball BACK in the stance worked quite well. For me, he's right. It may not work for everyone, but the idea of taking a steeper swing path and swinging down on top of the ball just seems easier. If I move the ball up in the stance, I feel as though I'm chasing it and I'm much more likely to skull it across the green. This is such a feel shot. The scary part of the shot is that it requires a fairly robust swing...talk about trust! What you'll probably find is that your acceleration through the shot is what really controls it. When trust disappears, the tendancy is to decelerate at impact and nothing good happens after that. This advice is probably worth what you're paying, but it is a shot that I've learned through trial error and PRACTICE. It is one fun shot to hit. You'll hear a great little 'click' when you clip the ball.
