Why would you want to hit them further? Especially right before an event?
because someone was hitting the ball further then him........ it is a curse hitting 6 irons from 200 yards........ 150 yard pitching wedges sound great but that leaves you 150 yards with 2-3 clubs
Well since you're a "scratch" golfer according to your profile you should know that irons are accuracy clubs so you really don't need to hit them far. Also since you're a "scratch" golfer you should know how to hit them further if needed. So are you really scratch, or just a junior with an ego handicap?
You could "grip up" all the way to the butt of your grip.
You could hit a draw if you do not already play one.
You could play the ball back a little further in your stance and the ball will take off on a lower and further trajectory.
You could play a harder ball. I personally perfer a softer ball like the pro v, but the harder ones will go a bit further.
You could make a fuller shoulder turn on your back swing.
You could go past parallel on your back swing. Like John Daly, but he has a lot of God given talent most folks dont have.
My last suggestion is what I would do: Take one iron more. For example, when you normally reach for a pitching wedge, take a 9 iron instead and swing smooth.

im not really sure why you would want to....im not a big hitter, 250 drives, 200 with a 4 iron, going on down the list...but i make it work. seriously, instead of worrying about distance, focus on accuracy. also, a good short game will more than make up for shorter irons. i would work on that instead. i realize that is my major weakness (putting, chipping im fine), and im throwing away more strokes there than anywhere else. hope this helps.
other than that, what has already been said, and just work out. look up specific excersises that help the muscles you need. eat well, hit lots of golf balls on the range, etc...and of course, work on your swing. the better your swing, the better the ball flight, obviously. i like playing a draw too, as already stated.
Same poster stated he won a local event by shooting a "67" and then went on to ask for advice on how to add distance to his drives. That maybe an understandable question but asking for more distance on his irons before an event?? Doesn't make sense, like he is going to try these new internet tips during the tourney and be pleased that he is flying 5 yards over the greens now.
i know he is only a junior, but he won't get anywhere in life lying about how good he is.
if he's a scratch golfer he should know his length with each club, and why would you want to change that after getting to scratch? if you want to hit it further just take 1 club more. so if you want to hit a 6 iron longer, use your 5.
no scratch golfer would want to start finding ways to hit the ball further all of a sudden, especially right before a tournament
i have to agree i cant see wanting to change your distances a day before an event.. ^^ and if he shoots 67 theres no reason to lengthen anything but watch that ego
There was a discussion a while back on the subject of juniors and their scores. I know there are tons of juniors out there that are on the verge of being pros, but this is the very reason I'm skeptical of any score a junior posts. You're not able to shoot a 67 by being a hacker and then come to a forum and ask for tips, you should be giving tips, not getting. Juniors such as this give all the others a bad wrap, so sorry in advance to other here juniors if I don't believe a certain score or handicap.
I know, I know...who am I, and why the heck do I care? Well, really I don't care at all. If someone wants to come in a forum and post how good they are in every thread, great for them, but please don't turn around and make three other threads asking for tips and advice, I just get tired of reading it. I've never met a really good golfer that ever needs to let anyone know how good they are.

I know, it must be tough to believe I score all those low scores listed in my profile.
