What do people use here besides impact tape to show ball position on the face after a shot? I have heard foot spray, dipping the ball in water (tried it, didn't like it), etc...what creative things have you used to get the same effect?
Put a vertical line on the ball with a black sharpie and line it up so the line is perpendicular to the face of the club.
When you hit the ball the line with faintly transfer to the clubface (it comes off easily).
I found this out accidently, I put a line on a few balls as a putting aid but noticed the transfer onto my driver's face.
It helps if you are aiming wrong at address as well, put the line all the way around the center of the ball, face your target as you tee the ball up and point the line at your target, now address the ball and you can easily see if you are square to the target.
I've always been curious as to why everyone buys different products to tell them where they hit the ball on the clubface. I find it pretty easy to tell where I made contact at on the face by the feeling at impact alone (or should I say the sound at impact? Becuase I know someone will argue that you actually don't feel anything at impact, it's the sound that makes you think you feel it).

Once they hit a couple hundred balls with impact tape or other thing, they will learn to "feel" the hit. You could not be sure of a toe hit or a heel hit, but if you learn what they feel like they will become just like you.
The ball leaves a mark on my irons already - also some of the cover comes off and gets stuck in the grooves. Even on my driver, you can see the dimples....I'll try to take a picture of it next time. But in all reality, I can tell where I made contact right away - I love forged irons!

I've never tried it, but I have a playing-partner that swears on Baby Powder.

I do something similar at the driving range, without the sharpie. I place the ball in such a way that the lines printed on the range balls will receive club impact. This has a similar effect, especially when using really awful range balls.
I use my daughters side walk chalk. Works well on driver, have not tried it on my irons. I like the chalk because it doesn't effect my ball flight. It is also very cheap.
I mark my golf balls with a single black dot below the writing (I fill in one of the dimples) and I place my ball on the tee so that my driver or iron will hit this black dot when I hit the ball. It works very well in showing me where on the clubface the shot was struck and the black dot lasts a long time as well. Simp
