When I go to the range I am on the practice green twice as long as I am taking full swings. I just work on my speed. I just want it close to the hole. I'm ok with 2-putting right now, and sometimes, I'll even sink the long one (little bit of luck no doubt) - but when I start I start with 6 balls all 1-foot away from the hole. I sink them all, then move another foot back and do this over and over, until I'm shooting about a 20 foot putt. I'm just patient with it, and I have noticed much better results, and a lot more confidence when I step on to the dance floor.

Hi big cut, you have to believe your going to make every putt, even 50/60 footer's. Find a way to putt that suits you and stick with it, look at the pro's, they all have different styles and grips when putting.
Be decisive on your read,- once you get over the ball just say to yourself, o.k i've got the read, now it's all about pace, i,m going to hole this one. Be confident in your stroke, no matter how many putts of 3 or 4 feet you miss when practising keep telling yourself i'm a good putter.
Dont get in a slump over missing a few, you have to enjoy your new found confidence and if you miss a 3 footer just tell yourself i'll make the next one.
You asked about drills to stop 3 putting. I was given a good drill to use (cant remember where from) before playing.
Drop 4 or 5 balls all within a couple of feet of each other near the center of the practice putting green, now in different directions putt each ball to the fringe trying to have the ball lying against the slightly longer grass. this has helped me with finding the right pace. Now hole 3 or 4 three footer's (for added confidence) and go and play.

Everyone is right...you have to get the ball closer to the hole on the long puts. At that range, I always try to get it within the 3 foot circle around the hole. Making 60+ footers is not my main focus when I set up to a putt of that distance. I'm focusing on getting my speed right for starters, and second, obviously, you want to have a good idea of the line / break. You really just want to get it close so you give yourself a chance to make the next one. If it goes in, then all the better, but at that distance it won't too often.

If you can, set up some tees in a 3 foot diameter around your practice hole, and work on getting them in that circle. The same goes for chipping. If you can get it in that 3 foot circle, your odds of 3 putting will go down dramatically. Hope this helps. It works well for me.

There are some great tips here. If you seem to do fine on the putting green and then not so good on the course, maybe you need to try to get used to the pressure putts. Put a friendly wager on your putts on the putting green with your buddy. Total putts on 5 or 6 holes and you both putt out to each hole starting from the same spot. This will help you get used to the pressure. Hope this helps...
