Hi there,
My golf has improved quite a bit lately I feel very confident using a 4 iron for longer shots and 7, 8, and wedge for the shorter stuff, but I have to confess I can't use a driver; I can actually hit a ball further with a 4 iron than I can with a driver. Can anyone help/suggest an answer to this problem please??
A few guys I know who favour irons will hit down on the ball very steeply. This results in a very low, powerful, running ball. Hence they actually get quite long shots and can live with long irons off the tee. Unfortunately it doesnt suit with the driver. They take an enormous lash with the driver, hit way down on it and never actually hit the ball properly.
I too haven't been able to hit with my driver. I spend about 15-20% of my practice time on it but mostly concentrating on my irons at this point. My next installment of lessons is in October so I'll work on my driving then. So for now it's either the 3 or the 4 iron.
I'm getting the correct height on all my irons and I'm hitting the ball sweetly a good percentage of the time. I can hit the ball over 200 yards with a 4 iron (hitting the ball correctly) but I can hit a badly struck driver the same distance with less reliability so I opt for the more reliable iron shot.
I might try a few different drivers/have a golfing lesson?

It just takes a while (sometimes a long while) to learn how to play the game and hit all the clubs. I once left the driver behind the seat of my truck for a year and teed off with a 3 or 5 wood. Be patient, get instruction from someone that knows what they're doing, and PRACTICE. It'll come. With the driver, you have to make a sweeping swing, not down into the ball.
