Same distance on all irons??

So I'm realtively new to golf. My dad taught me the game in junior high and I just started getting back into it at 22...I went out and got some used Callaway Irons (94 edition) with regular graphite shafts.

I went out to the range today for the first time in about six years and was pretty impressed with my performance. I was hitting the ball solid with good (sometimes too much) loft. But one thing was bothering me. I was hitting ALL my irons (except my PW, couldn't get it past 115) about 150-160. What could I possibly be doing wrong? I'm swinging the all the irons with the same amount of club speed...Any suggestions? Thanks!

i dont think its you, its the driving range, if your hitting off matts and using bad balls, this usually happens, it happens to me, thats why i only go to driving ranges with grass. So dont be discouraged.
And if its not that, then i have no clue.

Yea that definitely makes sense, I just never thought it would make that big of an impact.

I'm sure if you measured them off, the distance would show up as different, but maybe not significantly so. Remember, range balls aren't of the same quality as the balls you hit on the course (at least not at most ranges, some do use better balls), and often times they have been beaten up so the aerodynamic qualities leave a bit to be desired. My course's driving range backs up to homes, so they don't allow you to hit woods, and they use restricted flight balls, so nothing flies more than 200 yds.

were you hitting your 9 iron 150-160 too? That seems pretty high...

lol actually yea I was, I was shocked myself. I hit my 8 and 9 better than my 6 and 5. It felt at times like I was hitting my lower irons like my higher irons (with too much loft). Maybe I need to have someone analyze my swing for resizing?

Could be that you are swinging pretty hard and don't have good control over the clubhead...the shorter irons are easier to control and you make better contact while the longer the irons get, the more off center the hits are costing distance...throttle back and try to hit easier but sweeter...

Well if you want to look on the bright side, you won't need to carry as many clubs as the rest of us if they all go the same distance.

Will make a mental note of that at the range today. Thanks guys.
