Welp, I'm 14 and will be a freshman this year and golf tryouts are the first week of school (school starts august 7th). So I'm looking for tips on making the golf team. Thanks.
Think more about enjoying the round. Don't think too much about making the team. If you are truly good enough for the team...and play to your abilty, you'll be there. Play loose and let the other guy worry about making the team. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
In my freshman year, I was the only freshman to make the team, my biggest advice to you, is to play it safe.. think about the best things that can happen. usually if you shoot in the 40's everyday you should make the team. RELAX too theres nothing any upperclassmen can do to mess up your chances if you just relax. When your in trouble, get out in one, and two-putt every green. Also make a good effort to let the coach know your serious, do them things, and I can guarantee you'll make the team :)
My advice would be to show excellent golf etiquette. A great golf coach will pick a golfer who displays respect for the game, course and rules, over a golfer who does not, but might have a one stroke better average.
The most important thing i could tell you would be to stay cool. I played 3 great rounds when i was playing with people i knew, and after a good round the coach paired me up w/ 2 of the seniors (i was scared to death) and ended up shooting like 10 over. haha i wasnt on the team for long after i shot 100+ in the first tournament of the year
Play within yourself. Don't take the big risk shots you hope you'll be able to pull off. Take the smart play, not the risky one. Course management is the key. Good luck and keep hitting the ball.
