pulled shots

i was playing the other day and noticed that many of my irons and tee shots were being pulled or once in a while hooking. It only happens about once every 9 or 10 swings. Any help would be appreciated.

without seeing it first, this is only a guess, but i would say that you're casting the club some, more likely from starting the downswing with your right shoulder. relax your swing and let your arms get a very slight head start before turning your shoulders.

It is very hard to fix a problem that is only present 10% of the time. If you have an opportunity to go to the driving range and get a video of your session, the tape might show you how your pulls are caused. Make sure to somehow 'annotate' the recording so that you know after the fact which were the bad shots, and also which were shots that felt really good.

I occasionally have this problem...maybe the same percentage of time. I use the swing thought of hitting from the inside to the outside to solve this, and it works for me. That keeps me behind the ball.

Well you could practice hitting shots with the ball below your feet. This will help change your downswing path from a hooking inside-out swing. The only problem is that it can cause a slicing outside-in swing.Usually a hook is caused by a swing path that starts from too far inside the target line and travels through the ball too far outside of the target line. Try setting up a video camera if you have one or asking a friend to stand behind you and watch your swing path.

Think in terms of three things. 1. The ball is too far foward, making your release point come later than the point where it should take place. Move the ball back and open the blade a degree or two.Or, 2. Something, perhaps your body is getting ahead, or too far forward in the swing. Hits some balls with your feet together. 3. One thing for sure, anytime a golf ball's starting direction is left of target, that swing was from outside to in. That's the only way a ball can start straight left. The only way a ball can start out right of the target is from an in to out swing. Get the ball starting right no matter how far right it goes until every shot you are hitting is solid! Then you can move to a draw by making sure your clubface hits the back inside (R) quarter of the ball. That means, to you it will seem like the clubface is open. Many people do not know that the good swing, just before impact the clubface is slightly open but is closing to square. I know, I know, I know all about the square to square, but for most there still should be some left forearm rotation back to the ball. Ben Hogan, stated in one of his books, "If a person hits a golf ball on the inside of the ball, the ball will start right but the ball has to draw or hook." It works for my students. Try it. WEB
