How to cure a bad grip

I have played golf off and on for 35 years. Never played often enough to be any good until i retired 6 years ago. Since then have played 2-3 times per week most weeks. My biggest problem has always been slicing my driver. I'm a LEFTY by the way.Anyway my handicap always hovered around 25..ugh!..until this past year when i finally learned to swing more slowly and started keeping the drives in play, although not always in the fairway.I have gotten to where i now play consistently at a 15 handicap and never hope or care to get any better than that. My problem is that in the past month i have started slicing my drives again..not severely..just enough to have poor second shots to recover into the fairway and with an occasional OB. The result has been to elevate my scores by 4-5 strokes a round.
I have always worn through golf gloves rapidly...in the palm and now seem to also be wearing out the thumb just as quickly. I have been told that the cause is that i am gripping the club too tightly. That is strange to me because in recent years I have tried hard to loosen my grip and have done so,but apparently not enough. I am especially concerned about the effect of gripping too tightly on my drives, and i also occasionally find myself yanking right what would otherwise be a very good mid to long iron shot. I wonder if my gripping is the cause of that.
Anyway I just discovered this forum and would appreciate any feedback anyone cares to provide on HOW TO MAINTAIN A LOOSER GRIP. Maybe a drill of some type to work on this, or any other ideas you think may be of any help. Thanks very much.

Hit the practice tee with an 8 iron in hand. After some practice swings, try loosening your grip a bit and hitting some balls while taking a reasonable divot. When you can hit this club with a looser grip move to a 5 iron for a bit, then down to a 2 iron or 3 wood. It shouldn't take too long and when you start hitting driver the looser grip should come naturally. A long time ago an old pro told me to grip the club like I would hold a bird. Tight enough to restrain it, but not so much as to cause injury. P. S. I've had the same problem off and on for over 50 years and this fix gets me back on track. Hope it works for you.

Try this "awesome drill" (with a relatively light grip pressure):

Back on track w/ an awesome drill
