Lift on 3 wood off the deck

I kinda struggle when I'm a long way from the green and need to get a 3 wood up enough to stop it. I'm fine from the tee bt just off the deck it's a niggling problem that I don't faace very often, but would like the way how to play it. I had though about hitting down on it but that results in a bit of a slice. Any ideas?

Yes, hit down on the ball. if you're playing a slice then it may be that you're not releasing your hands through the ball. Bring that right hand through impact.

On the backswing start your swing Low. Go back low for as far as you can. Therefore coming back into the ball you will get under the ball taking a nice divot. Go back low and come down hitting through the ball

Switch to a Hybrid! Seriously more and more Tour Players are ven switching due to the ease of hitting them, and the versatility they posses.

Best of luck I have trouble too!

What I try to imagine when I want to sweep any club is to try to get the shaft to touch my right shoulder on the backswing. That way I know I'm going to swing it on a shallow plane, sweeping the ball off the deck. I have a shallow 3wood and I do not take a divot but I do hit a nice fade with it and the ball sticks where it lands.

There have been debates on here recently about this... a hybrid to replace a 3 wood does not seem easy to find. Most people are reporting that they cant get a hybrid which is long enough.

I swing the same as I do my irons, thown out the mental clutter of the "sweeping" thought...seems that the sweeping takes care of itself due to ball position (forward and farther from the body)...hit down to go up...a fade will stop the ball quicker than a draw but a hybrid will do even better...if you can live with less distance, go with a hybrid for this situation...

How nice it is to read such a logical and sensible analysis! So many people ignore that and try to make different swings.

My 1 hybrid is a little shorter than my 3 wood but it is a LOT more forgiving.

hit down on the ball, and you will get a nice little cut, and plenty of distance

If I'm not mistaken Taylor Made makes a rescue/hybrid 3 wood

I know they have the 19* model and I believe they have a 17* model as well.

The 19*is to replace the 3-iron...the 16* is closer to what you would use to replace a three-wood. For me, the hybrid is still not longer than a solidly hit 3-wood.....but they avg. about the same distance.

The 3H covers 3 iron... 1H is meant to cover 1 iron... 3 wood should be longer than that.... it certainly is for me.
