Putting setup

when putting should the ball be in the middle of your stance, or should the clubhead be in the middle of your stance?(making the ball slightly more out front)

honestly just try it all different ways and find out what works best for you. for me best results come with the ball one inch in front of the bottom of the stroke. Which is about 2 ball lengths behind my left big toe.

I'll agree with viper1314. I place the ball in front of my left toes for best results for me. It's more the way my head settles over the ball than anything else. With it there, my read on the line is better. Most of my friends would go crazy trying to putt the same way.

If you have a Putter with a small clubface, (Like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson) I'd make it so the putter was in the middle of your stance, whereas if your putter has a big head on it(Like an Odyssey White Hot putter), I'd make the ball half way between the middle of your stance and your left heel.

This makes the putter head more square when you come to stroke the ball.

Golf Digest:
For what it is worth.........

If you are right eye dominant you should line the ball up fruther back
If you are left eye doiminant fruther forward.

Point at something about 15 ft away then close one eye. What ever eye is focused on the target, that your dominant eye.

Interesting...clear out of my left eye, but my right eye doesn't seem to focus very well...maybe a trip to the eye doctor is in order

They had a club pro on the Golf Channel who said the shaft of the putter should be leaning slightly forward, if you do this it will square the face at impact and it doesn't matter where you put the ball.

That's a good point. I know that if my club face isn't square up and down as well as side to side, my putts have a tendency to come off the face at to much of an angle and do a little hop that isn't good for accuracy.
