Get a hy-bred and save yourself the aggrivation of trying to hit a 3-iron,after playing with a 3-iron for 25 years I got a hybred when they 1st came out about 4 or 5 years ago,and now it is my favorite club because it is so easy to hit.

If the trajectory is too low, or not to your liking, try getting it reshafted with a shaft that has a lower kickpoint.

Try moving the ball back in your stance about 1/4 to 1/2". You'll get more of a descending blow which will impart more backspin. More backspin=More loft

I like to hit down and through on it. Tiger tends to take divots with his long irons. I was watching him hit a 3 iron on TV and David Feherty said it had the trajectory of a pitching wedge, flew about 230 yds, and landed softly on the green. I personally cannot hit it 230 yds, but I have been able to get a higher trajectory on my long irons by placing it a bit further back, opening my stance a bit, and swinging down and through. It helps alleviate the vicious hook that haunts me with my long irons and let's me hit a bit of a fade, which I think is what gets it high and lands softly. I hope this helps.

If I want to hit a high shot, I play a cut and put it farther forward in my stance. Flies high, lands soft. Learned this at Tiger's Clinic.
