quick question in regards to the golf swing
i just got back from a round of 18 with my friend. needless to say i struggled some today.
we started out on the back cause of the highschool having the golf team start on the front, and i did really bad on the back. topping and all that, which i know what i need to REMEMBER to not top.
on the front nine tho, i descided to try a tip i read in a magazine. anything can help at this point, for i really want my scores to get out of the 50's (mind you this is only my 2nd year playing and i'm starting to come around.) the tip, which i can't remember what it was for, was to imagine during your swing, that you are holding something in your right side armpit and stay that way all through your swing.
so i did that, and my shots were straightening out tremendously, on all the shots. sure i had my bad ones and a few slices, but things were going so much better. is this normal/good? is it normal that my upper right arm is soar? i even noticed more distance, so is this a key part in distance?
any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

The drill you are talking about was to cure the flying right elbow and make the swing more consistent. The key here is to have a repeatable swing. You'll get there and if it works for you, keep it. There is no magic "one swing fits all" in this game. Look at the PGA tour and you'll see all manner of methods. If anyone taught their kids to swing like Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd or Jim Furyk, they'd probably be arrested for child abuse.

The flying elbow thing works for some people. (Worked pretty well for Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples and John Daly) As Billyg said...what you're looking to develop is a repeatable swing. But whatever works for you is what is best.

Have you taken any lessons? This might help the tip of the day mentality and allow you to concentrate your efforts...

I think we're talking about the headcover under the arms routines.
Read somewhere that Vijay hits thousands of balls a day using this drill.
