Does a New Golfer (w some years on him ) graduate from Graphite Shafts?

was using my 56 Pitching wedge w graphalloy shaft at the range last nite, vs my cleveland CG 54 with stiff steel shaft....(the cleveland is a new wedge for me picked up on this site)

no matter how hard or how i vary my swing , the graphite PW still hits 30 -40 yards farther than the stiff CG , w full swings...

questions, since i will only get older, does one ever advance to steel shafts? is this true for all clubs? is there really a reason ? or when do you know? and how do you get there?

First off what flex is the graphite shaft in your pitching wedge, as you need to make sure you are comparing "apples to apples". The only reason people use graphite is for the weight advantage, as graphite can be made as stiff or stiffer than steel (reference driver shaft options). So, in my opinion, the only time you need a steel shaft is if you like the weighting of it, as most better players do. Its mostly a feel thing, as ball flight is governed by flex and kickpoint, which can be found in all manners in both graphite and steel. Hope this helps

most golfers who are advancing in years will stay or go to graghite so that they can maintain the distance. the graghite shafts these days are much more advanced and accuracy really doesn't suffer much at all.

Are you sure about the lofts?I thought a pitching wedge was 46 or 47 degrees.
