I have seen some fun games that people have posted here and there for practicing putting...I started this thread so that we could put them all together. Not so much drills, but games that can make practice fun.
Some friends came up with a croquet style of fun putting. Put two long tees about 5 inches apart to the side of the line on a long putt (on the practice green, of course) for six holes. You have to go through the "gate" on your way to each hole. The gates are one-way, so if you go past.... Another fun thing is to putt with 7woods or by blading a sand wedge. With these last two the distances are not too long so the putting green surface remains undamaged.
Well what i liek to do with my brother is have a "Penalty Putt Out" both of us get 5 putts each to sink either 5 different holes or the same one. If it is still level after 5 we have a sudden death. This game really gets you going when i little money is put in there, it really adds some pressure.
Another fun games is if you have a putting mat inside place it in a room (and because my house is carpeted) challenge yourself to see how many putts it take to get into the hole, it may not be the most constructive game, but its pritty fun going down staire, under table. (-:
A game of HORSE or PIG, or around the world, like you play with basketball are fun games to play on the practice green. A little wager makes it more interesting.
What I like to do with a friend is you each get three balls to start off with and you take the best total score for each hole. If you tie no one loses balls, but if someone wins then the loser loses one ball. When the two people have the same number of balls you play best total score, but if they have a different amount you play best single ball score
Heres how i practise myself, take 5 balls on the green, one of our greens has a hill so i use this,i spread 5 balls in 5 different directions about 15 to 20 feet, this gives me uphill putts, downhill putts, sideway putts with severe left hand or right hand break, each ball has a par of two to get in hole,i attempt to get every ball down in two and if i do then i spread again untill such time i get a 3 putt, then i have to start from beginning,i count 1 putts as 1 under par,so for instance if i putt 3 times 5 sets of balls with 2 one putts i am at 15 putts at 2 under if i start 4th sets of 5 balls and get a 3 putt on 16th ball its back to beginning,i only use 5 balls at a time to save hole area becoming crowded,i have reputation at my local club for good putting and this exercise has helped me gain this attention
here is one that a lot of us guys use out here on the tour. its call the moment of truth drill. your goal is to get to five under. you take five balls and place them 6ft from the hole in a circle (i.e. phil mickelson drill). this is a drill intended for you to react the same whether it be a birdie putt or a big par putt. like i said the goal is to get to five under. if you get to five over you loose. the first ball is for birdie. the second for par so on so fourth. you go around untill you get to five under. ya get it?
others would be:
the ladder drill from 3, 6, and nine feet. go up and back down. you miss you restart.
the lag putt game. you putt a club 2 feet behind the cup and you putt 20/30 footer trying to get the ball to the hole but not past or touching the club. if you come up short you loose. five in a row and ur doing good.

This one sounds like fun and I like that it adds some pressure to the practice.

These are the kind of games I'm talking about! Both sound like they would put a bit of focus into otherwise boring repitition
