Critique my swing please!

hey all i have 4 clips of my golf swing. Mainly just want constructive criticism. I'm a 23 hdcp. I can't hit my driver at all, horrible slice and popups. And i'm very inconsistent with my longer irons. The only clubs i hit well are my 7 wood, and 7 iron down to the wedges. Take a look let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

I did not see significant differences in your swing between the different clubs. You seem to be very consistent. The differences in the results are probably simply because some clubs are 'easier' than others. The main problem that I see is that your tempo on the downswing is too fast. Don't try to swing too hard, try to swing a little easier. It looks like your arm-swing cannot keep up with the rest of you. Related: I also think that you will benefit from a shorter backswing.

Hi Nara. There's a few things I noticed, hope it helps......

1. on you driver swing you have major overswing at the top of the backswing, if you play the driver video and pause it at the top of the clubhead is pointing at the floor about 10 yards in front of you. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it does mean you need to work really hard to get the club head square at impact.

2. On all swings the takeaway is very wide and outwards, which I think is the main reason you're slicing - you have an out to in swing path. Put two tees in the ground, one on the inside on the backswing and one on the outside on the follow through, and try hit along that swing path. It will take time, but I'm sure it will help.

3. (I'm also guilty of this!!) You put a lot of effort into the swing, which could be the reason you're striking is inconsistent, swing gently and concentrate on hitting out of the sweetspot, you're a naturally powerful man so you will get distance with controlled shot out of the middle of the club, rather than an almighty lash out of the toe.

Good luck.

What a good, powerful looking swing. With that swing, you should be better than a 23 hcp, if your short game is decent.

Maybe,(if you haven't already) find a good teaching pro to find out your problem. I'll bet it won't take much for you to really start swinging and striking the ball better.

Good luck

My main observation is that you seem to take the club outside of the target line going back.

a powerful swing indeed,i,ve tried pausing video at top of swing but the shade is stopping me from seeing clearly what i think you are doing,it looks like you are bending left arm at top of swing whereas it should be straight, you have quite a fast swing and sometimes a slice can be caused by pulling arms through too quick which makes you snatch club to the left,i find letting the body take the club through as opposed to arms gives me better timing and straighter shots

I think your swing is awesome. You only lack the confidence that comes with experience. In time you will:
stand closer to the ball
not fall away and keep your head down longer

Tempo is everything, swing the club smoothly, don't take a slow backswing and then a really fast followthrough, when you watch the pro's on tv you will see that the speed they bring there club back at is the same when they follow through

definitly shorten it up as Straightshooter said. when you can see the club iat the top of your backswing in your periferial vision (left eye), it's way too long. this has a tendency to cause some casting of your wrists. a very good way to shorten it up is to try to hit ball 150 yards with your driver, works wonders.

I was having a problem with slicing and someone told me to stand closer to the ball. Since then I've hit very few slices.

It's been said already, but it looks like you are standing a little to far away from the ball.

Not bad, but i do see a few things. Try to keep your right leg flexed. You seem to straighten it once in a while on your backswing. As you start your forward swing, try to initiate it with your hips. It looks like you are using your arms to power your swing, but doing that leads to an over the top move, creating a slice. Try keeping your arms loose and use your legs and hips to power your swing, and the arms will take care of themselves. If you look at some of the big hitters out there, you will see they have solid legs and core muscles because that is what they build to power their swing.

You have a powerful swing.
I suggest you try slowing down your swing speed, it will help to keep your lower body with better stability.

Good swing with a 23 index. Your swing is similar or better than mine and I am a 14 index. Could be a sign that you need to work on your putting and chipping. I think you can work on improving your balance. Here is one tip:
1. Standing tall, lift one feet off the ground and close your eyes. Stand for 60 seconds. Switch foot. Repeat 3 times. You might not be able to do it at first, don't worry if you lose balance and touch the ground with the lifted foot, just continue for 60 seconds. Do it 3 times a day. After one week, you feet should feel like they are glued to the ground. Many people think it is silly but it really work for me and those who listened to me.
