First off from the fairway how should I go about hitting a fairway wood? Should I sweep it or hit down and through it? Lastly I hit a 5 iron to a green sloping toward me, hit it with a lot of spin it jumps straight up twice then runs off the back of the green. I hit the ball dead center of green figuring it would pull back to the front pin location. What can I do to fix this?
Fairway wood can sometimes take a while to get the hang of, i personaly think of it as sweeping, and not trying to hit the ball too hard, id start off with the most lofted of your fairway woods. The main thing is to hit the ball cleanly. I find when i hit down on it it makes me slice or hook the ball.
i agree with above, its better in sweeping motion,i also find it even more important to keep your eye on the ball and let your body turn bring your eyes up,because there is no tee then there is no forgiving so thats why focus on ball really helps, and also as above don,t try too hard and accuracy will be better
I'd try a little of both on the fairway wood. The most important thing is solid contact second is what direction the clubhead moves for the next 6 inches after the solid contact. You can hit down on the ball more with the 5 iron to get more back spin. If that don't do it then move to a 6 iron and swing even harder.
Ok about the wood Ill try that and thank you. Secondly about the 5 iron it flew as high as a usual 6 iron for me and with just as much spin but for some reason the green wouldnt let it react and come on back. I think it may of been due to the extreme heat we had been having and the greens being pretty quick.
If the 6 iron goes as far as the 5 iron. The 6 iron will have more backspin. If the green is sloping towards you, unless the green is brown it will stick if you hit it hard enough.
Usually grip down on the FW about 1/2", and take a nice smooth sweeping motion. For me, my 3-wood is the hardest club in the bag for me to hit (off the deck).
I can hit my 5 iron pretty high and crisp but I don't think I've ever seen anyone spin one back, no matter what the slope of the green. The trajectory and the spin rate just isnt high enough, but it is high enough for it to come to a dead stop.
You won't see it come back at 190-200 yds out, but you'll see your dent and where the ball ended up when you reach the green. Everyone swings different. My 5 iron is moving down at impact so not only is the ball running up the club, the club is running down the ball.
Forgot to add that I play with the good ole noodle. Could yall possibly give me a few suggestions for a ball that gets better distance and spin with a very similar feel to the noodle. I also dont want to spend no 50 bucks on a box of balls cant afford losing that kinda money.
Unles you are palnning on making the tour or getting to a 0 handicap, the mid or low cost balls will do just nicely. In the winter, I think a wells culpted marsh mallow might go just as far an anything else.
You can find plenty of premium balls in great condition on ebay...I've been buying balls off of ebay for about a year with great luck. ProV1's, Nike One's, HX Tours, etc will all be good choices.
Well the thing is I dont want to go above like 20 to 25 a box. I love the feel but I feel the noodle lacks spin. Ive hit some random titliest and others with more spin but Im unsure of model.
