Driver straight, irons gentle hook?

My drives are pretty straight and not causing any problems. The irons however are a little inconsitent, sometimes straight and the occational minor push, but more gentle hooks. When I say gentle, its a case of missing the green maybe 5-10yds left, not terrible but more often than I would like.

I experimented a little last night with a 6 iron and found with it in the middle of my stance I tended to get a slight draw, but any further forward and this mild hook seemed to show up. I felt as though my hands were just flicking a little through impact.

I dont think that I am getting to a full finish with the irons (ie shoulders left of target, hips facing target). Although until I get it on video I wont know for sure. Maybe my hips are stopping and its giving me this little flick thought the ball?

Anyone have any tips or swingthoughts on how to keep the momentum going through to the finish. I used to get the club pointing at the target easily when I was younger

Thanks

Ok what i would do is practice hitting a couple balls with a half swing then build up, but it is hard to correct your swing if its not on video. Try get it on youtube or something.

I suggest getting someone else to also check your ball placement and alignment. Most of us will from time to time have perception issues regarding both of the above...it feels like it's where we want it, but may not be. You may not have a swing issue at all, since your driver is straight.

The practice range can be a wonderful place to work out the minor glitches. A good swing demands a little draw or hook. Many of the pros on tour fight a hook with many shots.

Well it seems to be something so simple. While I was playing 9 holes today I noticed that my left hand was a little too strong, so my clubface was a little left of target (although I thought it was at the target).

I have made the adjustment and all seems to be well again I will report back to let you know if it is a long term fix.
