A question about map markings

I was looking at a "map" of a golf hole located on a course not to far from my home and saw the markings "42D" and "23W" near the green. I see no legend that explains these markings. Can someome tell me what these markings mean? Here's a link: http://www.golfthefrog.com/course-guide-hole-1.html

Thanks, Jim

Would that be 42 feet deep from the surface of the green?

42 yards from the front to the back of the green and 23 yards from the left to the right side of the green.

maybe it is feet...
feet or yards...?
23 feet is less than 8 yards across...how big is the green? Is it 8 yards across or 23 yards across? It's one of the two.

Pretty sure bet...
How many greens have you played that are only 8 paces wide?

Most of them are smaller...that's why I can never hit them.

It's sad to think I can't hit my ball in an area 23 yards across with an 8 iron (or whatever club).

Of course if they made them any bigger I might be able to hit them and then I'd just be complaining about hitting the green and then 3 putting everything.

Mendenhall Golf, Juneau, AK. It's a par-3 course, and the greens are miniscule.
