Golf School Recommendations

I would like to send my 18 year old daughter to a month long golf school type program. She is a three handicap. Idea would be to have instruction, hit hundreds of balls every day and play. Any recommendations??

There MUST BE some schools around where you live in Calif. Unless of course you live in No. Calif. then you may have to look south.

You should be able to get on golfdigest.com and they have a listing of top golf schools. Just depends on what school and what instructor. I would imagine a HIGH price tag for a month long school. I know for 6 days with Jim Mclean is something like 7 grand.

In California, see if Jerry Heard's school is still open. He was a fine tour player until hit by lightning (Trevino was grazed, Jerry took the full hit). After a lengthy recovery he returned to the tour and then opened a school in Calif around 1990. I have one of his books and it is enormously thoughtful and detailed.

Most of the golf schools that I am aware of are 3, 5, or 7 day schools with relatively high costs. The instruction is more geared to the average player than the skilled player like your daughter.

I would recommend researching golf school instructors directly on the phone and emphasize what you are looking for. It's possible that your daughter could work at the golf school for 6 hours a day for a period of time and get individual time with the big name instructor if they are interested.

For a young girl with a 3 handicap, there should be many pro's that would love to help her get into a college program or futures tour possibilities.

If you're in or near the San Diego area...I would recommend the schools offered at Aviara. World class facility and very good instructors.

I would second that opinion about the Aviara Golf School. I enjoyed the facility and the instruction was appropriate.

I still think you are looking for something different than a golf school for an 18 year girl with a 3 handicap.

Thanks

Thanks for the input. Most of the schools are for a week or less and focus on "luxury accomodations" etc... My goal is a golf "boot camp" hitting hundreds of balls a day, chipping for hours, putting for hours, video for hours and playing. I did enroll her for a month at Leadbetter's IMG Academy for a month in October. I'll let you guys know how it went in November. Thanks again for the responses.

Golf School Results

My kid just got back from a four week stay at Leadbetter's academy in Florida. She absolutely loved it and wants to go back. They made a book with before and after pictures and tips for practice. The changes in her swing are simply astounding and I totally approve. They really know what they are doing. Cost with airfare from San Diego was a shade more than $7k but well worth it as she progressed two years worth of swing changes in four weeks. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is serious about the game.

Sounds like a good school. If you ever decide you have another 5 grand lying around, the Titleist Performance Institute up here in Oceanside is another option. They do like 2 day packages with everything from club fitting, to 3D swing analysis, to nutrition and golf fitness counseling. I sound like I work for the place, but I don't. I would just really like to go to it, and since it's like 3 minutes from my house, it's even more alluring.

Is that the Titleist facility a few blocks north of Oceanside Drive?

Yeah it's just off Oceanside Blvd, a couple miles inland from the 5 fwy. You can see the range nets from Oside blvd. I just discovered it was there a few months back. Cool place...I just wish I could use all the practice facilities there.
