I bought some inexpensive soft spikes at Wal-Mart once, which didn't last very long. However, there was a nifty little spike tool in the box that fit my hand so well that I kept it to replace the more expensive spikes I now buy. I can't for the life of me think of the brand name of the spikes, but they were kind of royal blue and clear. I don't know if they still carry them.
Good idea. Check out your divot/ball mark tool; my el-cheapo stamped metal one has two prongs on the side that are there to function as a soft spike wrench, they actually work pretty well...

the spikes that screw in , the tool works well, but he shoes the use the three tab slots that you slide in and turn, can be very difficult because dirt get inside along the tabs and won't allow the spike to turn, in this case, a table knife or screw driver works the best.
I use a Vice Grip wrench with one of those cheap tools that come with the spikes. You can really apply some serious force with this combo.
And yes, my tooth works just fine, although I do have to have my Wife chew my food first.
Except south of the Mason-Dixon line where the same tool is referred to as "tooth."
