Cool Cold weather ball and club selection

I went out and played a round in 45 degree weather yesterday and found that hitting my ball was like hitting a rock. I eventually figured out that I had to use a longer club than normal and a couple of old balls in my bag seemed to carry further. Anyone have any advice on balls that carry better in the cold and are there any general rules about adjusting club selection?

Cold weather

Good morning, We played this morning in Great Falls at 34 degrees. If you know you are going to play when it is cold, keep your golf balls in the house the night before. It takes about 24 hours for the temp to effect them. And yes, you will not get the length you usually do so use an extra club. Most people think we are crazy to play in this weather.

balls definetely travel less in cold weather than through the hot air,so if you imagine driving from tee and ball does,nt travel as far in air and it also doesn,t have the roll,i only started back last august after 28 years abscence, good thing is as last winter i will work on improving my distance and then when summer pops along i am pleasantly surprised at distance increase.

ps i did have my longest drive ever last winter, this is because the ground was frosty and the ball bounced and rolled a country mile

I played this morning and the temperature was about 45 when we teed off. The ball came off the club like a rock - it was a new ball - but after I hit it a few times it felt much better. I don't know what the physics is with this I do know that I needed to select at least 1 club more to get the desired distance.
