Power Swing

Can anyone take me over some key features needed for a powerful swing, or for making the ball go a long way. I hit my 1 wood about 230 today and would like to know how i could improve this. Are there any excercises i could do, or any tips that a powerful swing should have. Thanks

Give us a bit more to work with...
Do you hit high or low...is 230 the carry or roll out? Do you generally hit flush or are your hits all over the face? What is your build and age (I know you are a young guy)?
I made distance inroads when I started to concentrate more on tempo, plane, angles, grip (pressure and on club placement), flexibility and setup...essentially building a better action...I feel like I don't swing as "hard" as I used to but have markedly better result due to working on fundamentals

One last thing: I started to work on trajectory control as well (tee height is my adjuster) and have stopped worrying so much about carry...unless there is a forced carry or I want to stop the ball close to where it lands I look at the fairway as a bowling alley and hit lower trajectory shots with mucho roll...spanked one an amazing (for me) 340 (level, laser reading) two days ago using this on the rock hard fairways I play...only can use this on long straight holes as who knows where the ball will stop esp. with an unlucky kick, but I have played 3 holes on my course with this technique with massive results in the last month...

Im 15, tall, slim, my ball will carry about 230 yards. The ball goes high. I hit the sweet spot most times, i just dont feel like im getting all the power behind it. Like im not using all of my bodys potential. I am quite accurate though. I think this may be to my timing i dont think im using enough body, and a bit to much of my arms. I will try work on getting both to work in unisin. My swing plane, is good, but i will work on tempo, and timing thank you!

Try to hit the ball lower and see what results you get...my best drives come with good tempo rather that feeling that I got everything behind the ball...in fact if I try to hit the slightest bit with my arms I fade, a bit more and I slice...I have actually gotten it a bit dialed in and am able to fade/slice the dogleg right 18th just about right the last few...for me it is all about tempo, grip, setup and ball height and position...
230 isn't bad at all...I have forearms, wrists and fingers hardened by years in the kitchen and was a serious athlete when I was younger (soccer) and have very strong legs...I carry 270-290 at best and now with my new theory hit lower for 250- 260 with big rollout...soften up your grip, smooth out your tempo, and swing with even grip pressure (recent thread reference) and see how that works for you...

Ok bigivec, i worked on some of those things, and got a bit more carry, but my swing was a lot more easy going and i focused on what you said. I think i will just have to keep working on it, it wont happen over night. Can anyone suggest any excercisies i can do, to develop more muscle in the areas of the body that i need for example sit ups etc thank you

Start lifting weights at a local gym. That has improved my power a lot.

I think the most important key to power is to leave your head in the same position from the top of the backswing through well after impact.

Dangerous advice...I can curl 195 and bench 305...I still can't hit as far as a thin guy with a great swing...from what I understand the muscle groups that will help the most are the fingers, hands, wrists and forearms and then legs...a strong midsection is very important as well but for me when I really have the sensation of power coursing through the swing is when everything is coordinated, I am not trying to "hit" hard, rather I am very loose and relaxed except for my core, and my body turns around the axis...that and the angles created at setup, along with superior ball contact are the keys IMO...BTW I would trade my bulky muscles for some leaner, more flexible "golf muscles" if I could...it has taken a great deal of stretching to overcome what Harvey Penick terms as "non golf muscles" which had me labeled a hitter vs a swinger up until this year...

Sorry...here's an answer Crawford:
Squats (no weights)
Suicides(jump, squat, pushup position, squat, jump...5 min intervals with 30 sec break x4)
Jumping jacks(general fitness and shoulder endurance, same as suicides)
crunches...100 day
leg lifts...6 in off the floor sicsoring the legs(one minute on, 30 sec off x 5)
Push ups...on your fingers...100 a day
wall sit...keep legs 90* and back against the wall...work your way up to 5 min.
Winding a bar with a rope attached to a weight up and down using your wrists
Squeezing a tennis ball(raquetball)
Full full full stretching routine
These are a handful I did as a wrestler and was in the best shape of my life...no weights and high reps will keep the muscle development limited to leaner endurance muscles vs bulky ones...hope it helps...
