i have never been a fan of drastically changing things to fix a fault.....
instead of doing whatever that idiot told you to do, ridiculously strong grip to fix a slice, you should clear out some space in your living room and get a big mirror
...stand so that when you swing the club back the club is going to the mirror....with that part set up
...set the driver on the ground...just let it rest there naturally....step into it as if there were a ball teed right in front of it....ensure your stance is correct (i.e. spine angle, knee flex, arms hanging naturally....)
take a neutral grip...both thumbs down the middle...now slowly take the club back till it is parallel with the ground and check for
1. toe of club is pointing straight up....
2. LEFT WRIST (right handed) is flat and mirrors the face of the club
3. hips and shoulders are turning
then finish out the swing and hold at the top of the backswing, check for
1. LEFT WRIST IS FLAT AND CLUB FACE MIRRORS IT
2. back of left hand and club face are square, not over the line, and left arm is straight (mostly straight)
3. hips and shoulders are turned and you are not reverse "c"ing....
....do this several times over and over again until the flat wrist and squared club at the top feels natural then focus on just dropping your arms from the top into the "SLOT" and finishing the swing.....don't think about strong grip, weak grip...when you get to were your backswing looks CORRECT in the mirror and you get a good feel for the new positions go to a range....
DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE BALL FLIGHTS...just repeat what you practiced at home...implement that same swing with the ball there and just make sure you don't try to change it any....soon the slice should be gone and if you really focus on delivering the club from inside to out you should start to see the ball moving right to left (right handed)...the more confident you are in your swing being right the more likely the ball flight will follow....
I don't know of many good pros that have an excessively weak or strong grip except maybe those that have atrocious swing planes....
you look at the best ball strikers in the world and at the top their BOTTOM WRIST is FLAT and the CLUBFACE MIRRORS that and is SQUARE TO THE TARGET.....
in the end you want a good ball flight you have to have a good swing...you could make homemade work but you would end up working harder to make it and it will be less consistent than just learning to do it correctly.
good luck....
btw...when i started i hit huge slices that went 150 yards....so i left the woods alone and only hit irons and on some days i wouldn't hit more than a 8 iron because of the ball flight....eventually the more ingrained the in to out swing became the more the ball straightened out until eventually it was drawing everytime....then one day i figured i'd try a driver again...i hit 10 perfect draws that went about 260...it got so ingrained that i was unable to hit the ball left to right for the longest time....since then i have injured my right elbow and can't hit anything but slices for now.....
imagine my dilema...in to out swing with everything looking right but still slicing badly, oh and by the way every 10 or 12th ball will be a quick hook.....
why did i have to arm wrestle...stupid
