How do I get my swing Video onto computer?

Hi
I have just got my camcorder (miniDV) and am looking to load some of my swings onto my computer. I will be connecting my camera up to the computer via Firewire connection (IEEE 1394)

I think the computer has Apple Quicktime already loaded. How do I go about loading my swings onto the computer? Do I need specialist software ie Magix Movie Studio or Sony Vegas home edition etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Stuart

You can use "Windows Movie Maker". It should already be on your computer.

Thanks for the reply, thats good news and will save me having to spend anymore money. Its fairly new, running windows XP, so hopefully it will be there? I will google "Windows Movie Maker" and see what comes up.

Thanks
Stu

I follow the following tutorial when copying stuff from DV to avi and converting to divx/xvid or the likes. All based on free software, and its very hasslefree. Once done a few times, the entire configuration from converting a given file from pure avi to a divx encoded file takes around 1 minute.

I have just had the same issues myself recently, as I just bought a digital camera. I use better software than the junk that comes with windows, I like to be able to speed up and slow down video as well as edit it. To get superior editing software just look around for it. As for just playing your swing I recommend either v1 basic which is free or this sports motion program which is similar.

http://www.sportsmotion.com/
This has 15 day free trial 20$ to activate

http://v2.v1home.com/ This is free for the basic version but the premium verison is 40$ if you want to upgrade.

Either one just try them, anything is better than the basic software that comes with windows! If you want swing videos look here and this is free.http://www.v1home.com/

If you have anymore questions just ask. I"m terrible at golf but great at computer related business.

Out of curiosity...what type of camcorder did you get? Do you like it? I've been thinking of getting a cheaper one and I"m kind of looking for some recommendations. Thanks...sorry for the mini-threadjack.

Yeah, for the 240$ I paid it's perfect! It's a Panasonic PV-GS39 http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-PV-G.../dp/B000DZFTZS
The reason I bought that particular camera is because I can manually control the shutter speed. I can set it to 1/8000, if set the other settings properly and use it outside during the day I can really get a good slow motion video of my swing in great detail. I'll post an example of the video in while and you can judge for yourself. And here is your example: http://s45.photobucket.com/albums/f8...ent=before.flv
Here's the video of my terrible swing that's about the level of picture quality you'll get if you reduce the shutter speed to 1/8000 (equals more frames to view). I also had to edit that clip so the quality reduced as well. The video looks better though if aren't trying to do anything fancy with the settings.

I'm just a poor student but If you have more money to burn though I would probably buy something better more in 500+ dollar range. The picture quality isn't as good as it could be, but it's good enough to analyze my swing.
Just make sure when buying a camcorder that you get one that allows you to MANUALLY control the shutter speed. That will matter if you want high detail slow motion video.

I also purchased a panasonic. The model is something like a GS27? I havent actually used it yet as I need to get a tripod. It also has variable shutter speed up to 1/8000, but I will need to try various settings to get one that works well. It cost £149.

Yours was slightly cheaper that's about 200$ I think equals 149£? But your model is a little older too, doesn't matter though as long as it works. With the higher shutter speed I seem to notice more frames are recorded and there is a greater detail when I put it in slow motion, the club is easier to see. The problem is it gets darker the higher the shutter speed. Even outside during the day it looks dark, that's at 1/8000 though. The video I posted is set at 1/8000. You won't notice the difference unless you run it in slow motion though.

I paid 25$ for a decent new tripod so you shouldn't be paying anything higher than that.
