Question Driver Question...

I recently bought a used taylormade r510 tp 8.5 driver w/ grafalloy pro launch blue stiff 75g....i use to play a TM R540xd w/proforce v2 76g stiff...i went to my local shop and had my guy compare the two....i like the v2 and wanted to switch them around, but he said i should try adding a piece of lead tape on the bottom of the club towards the back near the clubs weightinsert...i did so and it help a little in stoping my draw to hook shot, but it still feels whippy right on the down swing....i normally favor a slight draw of the tee...........are there any shafts i should look at to put into my TP? The shop guy said a fuji 662, but thats like finding a needle in a hay stack....i think im a long hitter, i put it out about 285 avg....should i look at moving to a Xstiff flex....thanks

"Regular", "Stiff", and "X-Stiff" do not mean very much when shopping for shafts.

You need to look at the the specs of each shaft and see from what range Regular covers, what range Stiff covers, and what range X-Stiff covers.

Since there is no "standard" across the board when it comes to shafts, these names can be very deceiving. I remember being at Golfsmith 2 days ago where some guy was looking at shafts for his driver, very much like you, and wanted to get an X-Stiff shaft because thats what he had on his previous shaft, but after looking at the manufactures recommended clubhead speed for each shaft, he found he was in the range of Stiff.

I have an old Orlimar driver with a Fuji shaft that is labeled as Stiff. My friend has a TM R540XD with a Stiff shaft. The flex you get with mine is close to what Regular is on the TM shafts on the R7's.

Unfortunately, you can't simply switch the shafts, the 510 TP uses a .335 tip diameter, the 540XD uses a .350 tip which will not fit in the 510.

Thanks for the info.....so if i were to get a shaft replacement, what would be best....my swing speed should be around 95 to 105 im guessing, hadnt checked that in years. with my old 540xd 8.5deg. i would put it out about 285-295yds average...when it goes stright, but with that info can you give me a few shafts names that i should be looking at??? and remember its for a TM r510TP 8.5deg....and im sure its all about player preference, but im just looking at some where to start...thanks.
