How to introduce golf swing to beginner?

My friend who is 9 handicapper learned by first doing very short backswing till ball was getting hit ok and then gradually over time he lengthened his swing.

start with the grip...critical to start out with a good grip

basically, address a ball, grip, and posture. Also, when you back swing, do not speedy.....
