On informatoin overload.....need help with Shanks!

I have been reading every bit of literature I can get my hands on in regards to swing mechanics. My ball striking skills were decent...I have ran into a bad case of the shanks. Would moving away from the ball help? I have read it's ideal to keep about a fist lengths distance between the handle and your beltbuckle...am I just not getting my hands throught the ball fast enough? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Arms hanging straight down, hands under your chin...it'll feel like they're in tight. Concentrate on hitting the ball on the toe of the club till you find the sweet spot (might have to back away from the ball a little)...if you start toe-ing, move up a half-ball.

There are a few tips/drills that have helped me over the years when this fault creeps into my game. A couple of these are,- address the ball with the hosel of the club and hit it with the toe, another is to imagine that you are addressing the ball on a clock face with the target line being at 12, now try and hit the ball to the number 1. One last thing might be to check and see if you are swinging harder and faster than normal as i have found this can lead to the dreaded shanks. Hope this helps,,

Set a tee on the outside of the ball that only allows just enough room for you to strike the ball on the sweet spot and miss the tee. Just avoid hitting the tee. YAY!

First, watch the movie, Tin Cup. Then, use some impact tape to see were your ball is striking the club face and make the needed adjustments.
