Ok, I have a regular set of Lynx Black cats and 1 Fusion Wide Sole Callaway 5 iron...
On the range Ive been praticing with my 5 iron Fusion that it seems I have become so used to it and the wide sole that Im not hitting my LYNX irons well anymore..
My main praticing club on the range is the 5 iron because its the middlle club and shows if your doing something wrong.. But ive become worried that Ive become so used to the wide sole fusion iron that my other irons are not improving..Whenever I go from my 5 iron to say praticing with a 6 iron I have trouble hitting the 6 iron not as well
Ive been thinking of getting a new set of Fusions but their so **** expensive.. figures its the club I like the best..
PS.. the Fusion is alot lighter than my regular LYNX black cats so there a definate change in feel when I change clubs, which is confusing.. It seems switching from 2 different brands is very hard
It's not necessarily the brand as much as it is the swingweight that makes the difference. If you have a significant difference within your set, it will cause problems. I can't hit an iron with a light swingweight (right now I can't seem to hit an iron at all, but that's another sob story), so all my clubs are D1-D2. That may be your problem... the Lynx's are just not right for you.
Well I gave in and bought a set of Wide Sole Fusions..they were 1300 at the regular golf store, but I found a set off ebay for around 480$.. My shafts are 3/4th understand standard so when I get them Ill do that..
Ive only bee praticing with my 5 iron now.. im not bothering with the black cats anymore, they are simply too heavy and Ive gotton used to the 'feeling' of the wide sole..
Renton: your thinking about the 5 irons being the middle club has pretty much gone out the window these days. With more and more golfers leaveing their 3 and 4 irons at home, the 5 iron is now the longest iron in the bag. If you carry a 4 iron to SW, the middle iron is now a 8 iron, not a 5. It sounld to me like the diffeence in weight is the problem. I have steel shaft irons, and a D4 swing weight. When I tried to hit a ball with a graphite shaft iron, I can't make solid contact at all.It takes me a dozen swings before I can get used to the light club. I hope the new wide sole clubs work for you. good luck with them.
When I was using my cally big berthas I sometimes played with a rescue for a three iron replacement but now that I play the yonex forged I wouldn't take out my 3 or 4 iron. If I had to play big wide bottom clubs again I might consider it.
