3 wood and stance for irons

Evening from sunny Edinburgh......

Looking for some advice on a couple of thing please...

1) I have a Driver, a 3 wood and a 25Deg Hybrid in my bag. Both my Driver and 25Deg I play with a fairly wide stance and the ball about 2/3 inches right of my left foot. However I cannot hit my 3 wood for anything. Widen/Close legs mishit...Off left feet or middle to back of stance mishit - How should I be hitting this? Both my driver and 25Deg are hit pretty well, long and straight.

2) Last year I got 1 and 3/4 inches added to my irons (I am 6ft 5in).....Since then I have really started shanking bad with my irons. It is at the stage when on Par3s I would want to punch my 25deg even on holes only 120 yards! However recently with my Lob/Sand/Wedge/9 irons I have almost closed my legs when swinging....Infact they are only about 4 inches apart. This looks to have worked? Is this just luck or is it correct? If it is correct, what about my lower irons? I tried with my 5 and 6 but found I started pulling, although I opened my legs to about 7 or 8 inches.

Thanks in advance...
