How do you know its time to start the downswing?

I think this is connected to my other thread but its an entirely different topic...

I think I have trouble "knowing" when to start my downswing. Sometimes I start it too early and it jerks my swing and reduces swing speed and sometimes I over estimate it and start it late and I wont hit the ball right...

How would you know the right time to start or to transition to the down swing? Counting can help but if you count too fast or if it doesn't fit your swing, you'll still end up jerking it or delaying the downswing.

You need to know your 1/2, 3/4 swings etc. Once i found that out, i let gravity start mine.

Sounds to me your issue isn't with "when to start" your forward swing, but rather how quickly you're taking it back.
