pulled shots with the driver

I try to maintain the same swing with all my clubs....it works great with all of them except the driver...My most common "mistake" with my driver is a pulled shot, straight but to the left maybe 30yards left, of there is a hazard or OB to my left I'll be going there for sure when this mistake happens....on a really bad hit it goes to a pulled hook....on a good hit, it goes straight and long....

What mistake am I doing here? too much right hand? how can I fix it? Any tips?

Thanks

Re: pulled shots with the driver

First of all make sure you get your back to the target or you will already be swinging left with your shoulders. Usually I see pulls when the student tries to hit it too hard. Specifically, their weight remains on their back foot as the shoulders quickly unwind. Try to get your weight over to the ball of your left foot before unwinding your shoulders. It feels like a hip 'bump' to the right of the target. Your left shoulder will go up while your right shoulder goes down. "If there is a magic move in golf, it is this: from the top of the backswing the weight moves to the left foot as the right elbow comes back to the side" - Harvey Penick (not an exact quote because I can't find his book at the moment).

Now you can unwind around the left leg and approach the ball from inside the target line. It should feel like your swing takes a fraction of a second longer back to impact. Do it in slow motion to get the proper timing (sequence of moves) and then gradually speed it up. Do 3 to 5 practice swings without a ball and then hit ONE. If you hit it good keep going, If you miss do another 3 to 5 practice swings and hit another. Expect it to take a few days and a few buckets to start grooving it.
Hope this helps,

Re: pulled shots with the driver

I have had trouble pulling shots for the last couple of years. I would search on line, find something, and say, "that's it," only to revert back to pulling when on the course. I know that I stop my turn sometimes, ("back to target" per Golfguru above), but I could never seem to stop the pulls for any length of time until this spring when I found this:

Pulling Shots Left - Bob Mann Answers

This worked for me ... I haven't had problems with pulling since. I don't understand how I got into the habit of locking my left leg but now I make sure both knees are flexed throughout my swing. Now if I can just stop overswinging ...

This may or may not be your problem. There are so many things we find to do wrong???
