Oh so frustrating

Ok so the swing is getting better but one thing has me incredibly frustrated:

My driver is completely falling off the table. At the range, I used to have to problem hitting the back of the net in flight or on a short hop. Net is rated at 270 ish according to the pro shop. Now I can barely hit the ball 200 yards if that. Heck, the other day on the course I hit one solid and only went 180.

Any suggestions on getting my distance back?

Re: Oh so frustrating

I went through the same thing and I'm not patient enough to keep working to try and feel comfortable to get the distance increased so I went back to the drawing bd. and am trying to develop a swing mechanics that allows me to use my natural swing in which I'm capable of generating quite a bit of swing speed.

Re: Oh so frustrating

This is why I had to go from a flimsy Adila 55 NVS Regular Shaft to a light Stiff 60 Fugi in my Driver. With the Big Betha and the soft regular shaft I developed with my natural swing a very ugly violent snap hook. Going to the FT-5 Driver with a Stiff Shaft on the light side my Natural swing sends them straight or a slight fade. Coral stay with your natural swing that light shaft had me trying to steer the ball straight at a great sacrifice of distance or being shy with the swing and blocking it into a slice. With the new Driver I can take a good hard natural rip at it and watch the ball fly straight.
My swing speed is only moderate but I accelerate hard at impact. It is nice being back at my natural swing.

Thanks BobX460, It's starting to get more repetitive. My biggest problem has been eliminating my old tendancies to come over the top which I've about totally eliminated but I used to hold off the release for over 30 years thinking that would help eliminate the slice which in fact made it worse. Now I'm just trying to figure out the timing sequence so I can keep ripping it. Most of my shots now are either straight or fades but dispersion is what I'm trying to tighten up.

Yep with the light shaft that my swing speeds indicates that I should use my dispersion was like a fish-eye lens. Last night at the range is was a lot tighter. So as the guy working with me at golfsmith (I finally found a smart salesman) pointed out swing speed and shaft rating don't mean anything you need to get in the computer booth and see what works best for you.

I wished I had one of their stores close. I may go talk to the pro at the range and see if the have a variety of shafts in a similar clubhead that I can test on the launch monitor. I've been just doing it the old fashioned way by trial and swapout.

Yes I know what you mean and I didn't want to kepp taking them back cause i'm sure they would say that the problem is not the Club but the person holding the grip is and to go get some lessons before you buy Clubs. So I hit about 7 or 8 brands with Regular and Stiff Shafts till I saw a positive dispersion pattern. Good Luck let me know how it works out for you. Buy the way the Taylor- Made burner came in second place for me. It is also a good Club

I've got three good heads but just want to find the right shaft. I've got one now that is close but has no markings on it and have no idea what shaft or flex it is. I'd say it has to either be stiff or x-stiff and I may check and see if they have a way to check the cps as a whole unit without pulling the shaft. I will probably continue to search for the perfect shaft for me but this one is good and the only problem it has is its' operator repeating the same moves.

Re: Oh so frustrating

Are you making good contact on the sweet spot?
Proper weight transfer?
Are you following through to a finish?
From 270 to 220 ish is a big difference, that might be a loss in about 15 mph swing speed or so.

Re: Oh so frustrating

I'm no longer swinging outside in, my slice is gone I only have my baby fade, I'm rotating my hips, keeping my head still, etc etc.

We checked out my swing speed and it hadn't changed a bit.

Re: Oh so frustrating

Well since your club head speed has reduced it means either one of two things. One you shouldn't have been swinging at the speed you were before, or in your search for accuracy you losened up your coil, and now you need to re-introduce a tighter coil to generate power.

It hadn't reduced I said...its always been between 95-102 MPH, even yesterday using the gun it wasn't any different. But I will try tightning up my coil

Re: Oh so frustrating

If your speed is still the same, and your mechanics are getting better, it can only be contact that is robbing you. I say just give it some time and some more practice, really try to focus on getting the center of the club on the ball, and the yardage will come back by itself.

I think this is really good advice. I think it is not-quite sweet spot contact that is doing it to you also. If a little more time and practice doesn't right the ship, you may want to tinker a little with ball position. Maybe a little farther back in the stance, maybe a little forward, maybe tee the ball up a little higher or lower. Your new swing may have moved the ideal spot for the ball location, so you may have to find it again.
