heel or centre shafted putter?

Any insight would be appreciated. Is there any creedence to the theory that centred shafted putters work better for pendulum swings and heel shafts for the fanning style of stroke? I am of the latter style, and thinking of a new "YES" putter.
thanks to all,
Harrycantputtanymore!

Re: heel or centre shafted putter?

It depends on your putting stroke. A fitter could take a look at your stroke and tell you what kind of putter would be suited best for that stroke. A lot of golfer's buy putters off the rack, which may not be suited to their putting stroke. Since we use the putter more than any other club a fitting might be in order.

This is one part of technology that I never got involved in. I would be intrested in getting my putting stroke examined to fit the best putter for me. I do great with the one I have now, but wonder if I could improve.

One of my favorite things to do when I go to a golf "candy shop" is to try (and commonly buy) putters...I have found though extensive "research" that the face balanced style is right for me...there are different ideas about what would and would not work for various strokes, but the best piece of advice I can give you is to go try every putter you see, a trend will develop and the right putter will "speak" to you...

I would agree with your original statement. I have a "gating" putting stroke and can only use a heel shafted putter (8802-style). I have tried to change to a pendulum stroke and bought a center-shafted Amazing Grace putter but it just didn't feel right for me.

Since I got fitted for my putter my putting has vastly improved.
