Have a 10 yard approach shot to an elevated green that runs down hill away from me. Flag is about 4 yards in from the fringe in front of me. My ball rests on hard packed short grass. What club and how should I play it? Have full set of wedges, PW, GW, Sw and LW. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

if you have a bare lie then id use the loft of your LW ( similar to bump n running it with a 7 iron except with a LW) jus make sure youuve gave it enough to get up there.. put it past the flag, then your giving yourself an uphill putt .
is this a par 4 ? second shot? if so why not think of giving yourself an iron off the tee to suit your yardages?
Imagine the butt of your club pointing at the ball throughtout the swing, this will keep you on plane (Under the glass as in Hogan's 5 Fundamentals) and make a loop impossible.
Over the past year I have lost considerable distance on my irons despite seemingly not changing anything...I know irons are for accuracy and at the moment they have never been more accurate, but my 7 iron has gone from 175-180 to 140-145...I still have a strong wrist cock, do not sway on my backswing, am not casting, am making good contact, turning over through the ball, swinging smoothly and hitting the ball with a soft draw...could it be my overall flexibility or do I need to eat my Wheaties!?!?
Just a quick question well maybe two questions, What im wondering is how much
of an influence is too wide of a stance ! would the ball slice if I dont get the shoulder
turn quick enough cause the stance could be too wide? #2 question is it a good rule
of thumb once your shoulder tucks under your chin during the swing to start coming back
down?
a stance that is too wide has tremendous influence. if it is too wide, it is too hard to make a full turn, you won't be able to swing through the ball, and you will have a horrible time playing. the stance should only be about shoulder width, a little less than shoulder width for shorter irons, and a little more for the driver.
well, you should not start the downswing immediately after your shoulder is under your chin, but you shouldn't turn any farther because you could start to tilt which will throw you off balance. vijay singh said he uses numbers for his tempo. you can do a 1...2 or a 13...17. make sure that you say the numbers (in your head of course) smooth and one right after the other (thirteenseventeen) after you say 13 and before you say 17 you should be at the top of your swing.

hmm, i'm not really sure. have you moved to a different city or anything?
well, i've lived in tucson ever since i have played and just recently my yardages are going down. the temperature and humidity are factors that decrease distance; just like elevation does too.

i don't know what else to tell ya
Despite what would appear to be logical, I have heard that humidity actually will increase distance over dry air and of course a warm ball will travel farther than a cold ball and both will travel a longer distance at altitude...
C'mon Ask Seansy...I've stumped two instructors with this one...
Had the same problem, and I've switched clubs and have been super accurate yet my power has declined some 15 yards a club. I've had to get good with the 4 and 5 irons again and I used to not have to hit them.
Last season, I had a problem hooking the ball so I changed my swing to where my normal iron shot was a low punch. I hit the ball really straight and the ball checked up like a yo-yo every time. I lost considerable distance, however.
This year, I abandoned hitting it low and went back to sky-high draws with my irons. I'm hitting my 5-iron about 15 yards further than I did last year and I can hit it high enough to stop it on a soft green near a tucked pin.
Nothing...and now to confuse me further, in the last week my distance has returned...maybe I was just tired, but my 6 iron in the last 7 days has gone from 145 to 180...took off 6 of those days due to a hectic schedule, went to the course and bang! Who knows? I feel like I am hitting the ball the same, but now it doesn't come down...weird...
when i am am using an iron off the tee i always seem to baloon the ball hi in the air therfore always need to go a club or two lower to get my desired distance...it isnt a major problem but one i would like to fix

thanks any help u can give is much apprsiated
i think its a ball striking issue. therefore i recommend lots of practice and jus develop the feel of a well struck shot.
Here is a simple drill i got when i had a problem with catching it fat or thinning it.
put a tee and stick it more or less all the way into the ground but just have the ball sitting up slightly on it as if giving you the perfect lie from the fairway. now when you hit the ball concentrate on knocking that tee out of the ground.
this worked wonders with me.
good luck buddy and give us a shout how you get on .
ps - i PMed you about a game at my homecourse this thursday.
