skulling irons

I'm fine off the tee but for some reason I have been skulling my irons. They go straight but are often line drives. Any helpful hints????

Without seeing a video it is tough and several things could cause it. My guess is you may be trying to swing a touch harder and not keeping the same knee flex or spine angle. It might also be a slight slide forward but generally you would hit shots to the right if you were sliding.

Re: skulling irons

You could try hitting balls with no more than a half swing using a middle iron. Dont try to crush the ball and dont worry about any distances, just half way back, half way through with a really light grip (if it feels too light at first and you could drop the club then it's about right).
This will help with your tempo, timing and ball position in stance. Just concentrate on a nice easy swing with crisp contact.
Hope this helps,

Yep gotta stay in your stance and let your right shoulder lift you out after contact.

Re: skulling irons

Keep your head down... Keep that left arm straight throughout the shot.. if its a short iron, I have a slight tilt toward the target and that really helps me pinch the ball into the ground & have that spin control... oh, put a little more pressure in your right hand..

Re: skulling irons

Keep you head down. Once in a while I skull chip shots, and it's because I lift my head before striking the ball.
