For right-handed players... When you initiate your downswing, which arm do you come down with - right or left? Are you leading with your left arm or right arm? Which arm are you supposed to be striking the ball with - left or right?
I find that I have my right arm way too involved in the strike, which occasionally leads to a hook shoot. This is a more of a tendency with my driver. When I focus and consciously lead and hit with my left arm, I get better results.
I pretty much try to hit the ball with the back of my left hand, i have the logo on my glove heading towards 1 o'clock (12 o'clock would be hitting the ball bang straight down the target line)
I dont think much about my right hand/arm. Hook is normally cause by comming over the top swing. Have a read of this site and something might help
Thats a tough question. For me I really dont even think about swinging at the ball with one of my arms. When my downswing is beginning, my arms are actually still on their way up and back believe it or not. This helps to add even more power in the coil for me.
My whole trunk twists and I fire my right side into the ball. My arms are kind of "brought along for the ride" so-to-speak. I hope what I had to say helps.
It's all in the shoulders! I lead with my left arm as I start my downswing, the closer I get to impact more and more of the power is coming from the back arm, or the right.
I don't really like to get technical but it's a combination of both which is initiated by the right hip pushing forward. This right hip pushing forward forces the upper body to push against the left arm at your armpit. As a result of that, the shoulders begin turning as well which puts the right shoulder downplane. Where the right shoulder goes, so goes the right arm.
In the downswing, your body movements must lead, and synchronize with your arm swing. The only thing that I have found that will make that happen perfectly every time for me is to pull with my left shoulder. I learned that from an ebook called "The Golf Swing And Its Master Key Explained".
Before I found that, my arm swing was always getting ahead of my body movements. When that happens, it is not possible to make a correct swing through impact.
I like what this guy has to say about the arms in the swing. I too am a proponent of letting the arms go along for the ride especially after you get them to the top. But you must have them relaxed enough so that your body motions translate power and momentum to them. I was a left arm hitter for a long time. Now my arms act more in unison.
