Practice - How?

Hello there. This season I have come down from 11.4 to 4.8 in handicap due to playing regular and lessons.

My problem now is, how do i practice? I play a lot of golf, nearly every day in fact but I know that playing is not the best wat to practice. I am happy to go down to the range with my practice balls and hit ball after ball, but can anybody please tell me the method for improving my game? Also, putting...... do i just stand on the putting green and practice over and over or is there a set way or proven way of practicing?

Please help

Re: Practice - How?

What would you say costs you shots?

Lets say its putting from 20-30ft. Your comming up 10ft short or even 6ft leaving you with a tricky 2nd putt. Theres a few drills for this, trying to get the ball within a 5ft radius or putting a t or club 1ft behind the hole and getting close to this.

Just an example but i think you need to go along those lines. Hows your % for landing on the fairways or are you often on GIR?

Actually, i think playing is the best way to practice! You learn how to play yourself around the course and think out shots. Nothing wrong with the driving range, i'm just saying. Being that you're a 4.8 handicap I won't try to give you tips, I'm around a 10, so you obviously know more than I do anyway haha.

Re: Practice - How?

I hit alot of fairways off the tee and many GIR, where I probably fall down is in chips and pitches from inside 100 yards, maybe these are what I need to practice.

See I ask these questions as I read somewhere that playing a round isn't as good as practicing. I dont really know whether to just keep playing.

Thanks

To be honest, from reading around. Speaking to other players and my PGA Instructor, this is where the Pros shine above the Ams. Sticking the ball 5ft from the pin from 90 yards etc

All you can do is pratice, not sure if you club has a practice green which has the room to practice the shoots? I used to practice that during off peak hours on the course hehe :)

For me, a 100 yard pitch (which shouldnt roll much) is a 10:30 swing with the gap, not sure if you use a silimar systemo (I use pelez 7:30, 9 and 10:30 swings with the wedges)
