Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

I have really improved my game with one exception. I snap hook my Driver way too often. I Snap Hook some at the range with the majority of my them shots going straight or slight fade. On the course the snap Hook will raise it ugly head and I am stuck in a funk the rest of the day. I hit all of my Woods and Irons well in the Fairway but the Driver on the Tee is my problem right now.
The problem is it is hard to tell what I am doing differant when I hit a good Drive vs. the Snap Hook.

How about trying to capture it on video?

Question: Do you ever hit your irons fat?

Re: Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

I have no Video camera. Yes I do hit Irons fat but a lot less than in the past . I have been making some great Iron shots from the Fairway and hitting greens. For Irons it had helped getting my hands lower and more foward in my setup. With my Driver I try very hard not to release my hands too soon. Is it possible that by trying to think about swing with my front arm that I am yanking the ball off the tee with my left arm?

By the way to show my improvement I had only 32 putts last night and had several lip out.

Re: Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

The reason I ask if you hit irons fat is because, I think, there is a common problem involved in both that an snap hooks. It's possible that you are "staying back" and keeping the weight on your right side (if you are right-handed) instead of shifting it, which will lead to 1) Hitting behind the ball (resulting in a fat shot) and/or 2) Getting your hands in front of your body (which causes snap hooks).

It took me forever to learn the simple act of shifting my weight to my left foot on the downswing, and I still have trouble making sure I do it every time. But it is absolutely essential.

Re: Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

Yes my research confirmed that I am not transfering my weight properly. I don't know what I am going to do to correct it without lunging. Maybe the reason I hit Fairway Woods so well off the grass is the little trick move I make to make sure I swing with a slight decending blow actually makes me transfer my weight without realizing it. I will work it out on the range. Maybe just for kicks the first hole in my round next week I will Tee off with a 3 Wood off the grass to get things rolling. Thanks for your help you guys are always so helpful. If I can get he ball off the Tee's there is no reason that I can't shoot in the eighties all the time. If you had seen my Tee shots yesterday you would find it amazing that I only shot 100. All of my second shots if I had one were from real trouble to put it mildly.

Re: Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

I had this problem last summer. I was letting my arms get away from my body. My teacher had me put a glove in my left armpit and hit balls without letting it fall out. I have also struggled with the weight shift and have made the adjustment and can really pure my irons, For some reason, I still struggle with it when hitting driver. But when I get everything working the way it should, man, what a beeeeutiful draw.

make sure your not being to quick to start you're downswing, thats one of the main causes of snap hooks. Also make sure you dont keep your weight on your back foot on the downswing... "swing through"

Re: Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

I was having the exact same problem a few weeks ago. Make sure you are finishing your swing high. It turns out that I was just turning the wrists waaaay left on the follow through instead of finishing high.

Re: Help needed elimating Snap Hook with Driver

Another bandaid fix is to make sure to finish your Drive with your hands high. Often a pull hook is caused by your hands being in a baseball type of finish.
