It seems like this golf season I'm really struggling to line up my putting. I've been trying to use the arrows on balls to line it up to where I want to hit it, but it seems to take FOREVER to do this, and I always feel bad making people in my group wait. And besides that, it seems like you need to line the arrows up perfectly for that way to work. I was wondering what anyone else does to line up putts, and if any of you have some tips for me. Thanks!
Try picking an intermediate target to align the arrows to (something about a foot away). That really helped me speed up the alignment process. Hope this helps.
I use the arrows on the balls too. I read the putt, line the arrow up, stand back and see if it's correct, and square the putter face up. It doesn't take too long if you do most of it while you are waiting.

I do this. I don't really trust a line on the ball anyway, with all the variables of setting it up, making sure the angle is right, keeping the ball from rolling, etc., etc. It's fine for lag putting, but for 10-12 footers I want to know exactly where that ball is aimed, and I don't think a line gets it done. Maybe for others, but not for me.

I agree. A 1.5" line isn't enough to actually get you lined up... it may help mentally, but it's not much help otherwise. I too use the spot method. I read the line (hopefully), pick a spot from one to two feet in front of the ball and on that line, I line up to that, look at the hole once more to get a mental gage of the length, then stroke the putt.
Thanks a lot, Ill give it a try! Like everything, lining up putts definitely takes some practice, but I really look forward to trying this on the course!
I dont bother using the line on balls. When i stand back and read the green, i pick two targets. One a few feet away from the ball where im aiming and the other is where i think the ball will break.
It worked wonders for me, although im in the process of hitting the ball a bit to hard.
I use the a combination of what most people are saying. I have a line on my ball that goes almost half way around. I pick a spot about a foot infront of my ball and aim the line on the ball at that spot.
The value having the line on the ball is being able to see how "true" the ball in rolling. If the ball in rolling end over end you know you've put a good stroke on the ball. If it's wobbling as it rolls you know something went wrong with your stroke.
Couldnt be bothered being too picky. Leads to all sorts of doubts. I choose my target, focusing average hard on it, line up roughly and aloow my body to make any minor changes required; just as it does if your hand is slipping on a glass. For me the reall secret is to be very firm on where your target is, then hold the target in mind.
BTW my puttin average was about 15-16 for 9 before I became ill. My best was about 13 (I had two chip-ins)
I average 29-35 Putts per round. I never line the ball up with my target. I line my putter up with the target so I don't see how a ball with arrows on it would help me. I am putting better and better and I just use my insticts. I have been dropping more long putts this year then ever by just trusting myself. And the 5-8 footers have become almost automatic. You wont see me buying any gimmicks or line em up thingy's. Trust your insticts the Human Brain is amazing if you just listen to it.
Lol now if I can just just everything else working on the same day.
