Post surgery advice

Hi, I'm starting to play again after a long break and am looking to get custom fitted - however since i last played I had some surgery which resulted in the removal of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and accessory nerve on my left side (I'm also left handed). What effects does anyone think this is likely to have on my swing/game generally and what effect might it have on selection of a new set of clubs.

Thanks

Rick

Re: Post surgery advice

Probably a question best answered by a sports medicine doctor specializing in the torso area but I would imagine that if using a one plane swing you would see very little difference. Possibly a two plane you might not drive through the impact zone the same and have a loss in distance. The pectorals don't play as much role in the swing in my opinion as does the lats and shoulders coupled with the hip turning.

Thanks a lot Drrell - the thing I've noticed is a slight drop in distance so I think I need to take that into account with my choice - now thinking of r7 tp's or MP60's. good of you to respond.

Re: Post surgery advice

Rick, you might want to try a few to see how they feel swinging them and the distances you get, which you probably were going to do anyway. You perhaps might also want to consider some of these full hybrid sets that might allow an easier swing. There is also the Nickents that have the slightly stronger degreed hybrid mixed set. So many options so good luck!

Re: Post surgery advice

Below is from Wikipedia - better than my explanation anyway - lol.

In human anatomy, the sternocleidomastoid (pronounced /ˌstɚ.noˌkli.dəˈmęs.tɔɪ̯d/) muscles are anterior muscles in the neck that act to flex and rotate the head.

I did try the clubs at the weekend and to my surprise the r7 TP's were sweet as a nut and look favourite at the minute - MP60's a close second - still not decided though.
